mixed medium on paper 30/44

This group of imagery results in a psychological and unexpected edginess. Utilizing figurative images I introduce a variety of dream-like sequences that expose the observer to a series of uncomfortable components. I have chosen a mixed medium process because of its spontaneity and wildness. As a dream sequence my current work explores desire/delusion/angst and the consequential forming of impersonal intimacies. The erotic conflict depicted is provocative, often combative. The pieces contain both male and female figures struggling for resolution while caught in a cycle of conflict. The depicted pushing and pulling, dominance and submission propel the viewer into a complex fragmentation not unlike thoughts and dreams.

The drawings use multiple layers where lines and shape overlap and intersect in a fluid and impetuous manner that create an illusion of underlying angst. The visual field is fragmented with a vertical section of cadmium red suggestive of desire. The red being juxtaposed with black intensifies the combat that is being fought in darkness. The male and female figures are touching sometimes entwined yet their expressions are distant and impersonal. Often the faces are fragmented suggesting delusion/angst regarding their identity. Into these enigmatic situations enter two additional components, a doll and green high heel shoes. The doll may personify the loss of innocence. She is neither attached to nor detached from the erotic. Green high heel shoes provocatively invade the space of each piece irrespective of the environment and are met with aloofness. All components work together as an entanglement of desire/delusion/angst and impersonal intimacy.
